About the Instructor: Like many great love stories, Kim’s love for ceramics began in high school. She loved the limitless dynamics of the art form, and it’s been her passion ever since. Recently, she’s been apprenticing with Peter "The Potter" Johnson, the local master potter working at Terrestrial Forming in Whitehall. She’s now excited to begin her own journey creating and teaching pottery to other art lovers.
COVID-19 Considerations: All students must wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.

In this two-session class, students will learn the basics of photography and have the opportunity to try their hand at shooting in specific styles and editing their photographs. Students should have or borrow a camera with the option to use manual settings, such as a film SLR, DSLR, or Mirrorless camera, to use in this class.
Class 1 will explore the fundamentals of photography such as shutter speed and aperture. The goal is to get you out of shooting in program or auto mode! We will set up a still-life to photograph, as well as take turns shooting portraits.
You will be asked to take additional still-life and portrait photos between class 1 and 2.
Class 2 will cover how to get the images off your camera and onto your computer for basic editing. If you have a laptop, bring it! If your camera came with editing software, download it onto your computer! It's likely that students will have a variety of editing programs, but the basics will remain the same - no matter which program you are using!
This class will meet on Tuesdays, February 8 & 15 from 6:00-8:00pm.
Minimum: 4 Maximum: 8
Registration is required. Register here: https://www.artswhitelake.org/even.../intro-to-photography-1
About the Instructor: Denise McElrath first started exploring photography in a highschool yearbook class. As an adult, her hobby grew into owning a portrait studio and teaching adult education classes.
COVID-19 Considerations: All students must wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.

Build drawing skills and develop a deeper understanding of the medium with instructor Laurel Geis. Still life is a fantastic way to learn important drawing fundamentals or enhance the skills you already have. Because you design the still life yourself, you can meet your needs and skill level, and also make it very personal. These class sessions will use still life objects to explore the basic building blocks of drawing: composition, shape and proportion, line and edges, value and shading. The sequence will finish with students creating a drawing of objects that have personal meaning or visual attraction.
This class will meet on Wednesdays, February 9, 16, and 23 from 10:30am-12:00pm each day.
Minimum: 4 Maximum: 8
About the Instructor: Laurel Geis has lived in the White Lake area for 27 years. She taught Art in public schools for 30 years before retiring. She is an active artist, working primarily in painting and drawing, and her work has been widely exhibited in sites like the Muskegon Museum of Art and the White River Gallery. Her work frequently includes landscape or environmental themes.
COVID-19 Considerations: All students must wear a mask, regardless of vaccination status.

It's a great physical activity that provides a fun way to be active. Players are required to remain seated (players are allowed to lift one side of the body, but are not permitted to rise completely off of the chair), so chair volleyball allows those with physical limitations to participate on a level playing field with those who are more active. Regular participation in the activity will increase flexibility, stamina and laughter!
The ideal number of people to play a game is 3-4 per side. Gather a group of friends and learn a new skill.  Chair Volleyball is played on the turf side of the VAC.
This is free to Seniors who live in the following municipalities:
  • Blue Lake Township
  • City of Montague
  • City of Whitehall
  • White River Township
  • Whitehall Township
Anyone else is $2.00 per game and can be paid at the VAC Registration desk.
Come join the fun!
