White Rabbit Red Rabbit

by Nassim Soleimanpour Director None

July 29, 30, 31 7:30 pm August 1 2:00 pm (Sunday)

Will you participate? Will you be manipulated? Will you listen? Will you really listen? With no rehearsals, no director, a different actor each show, and a script waiting in a sealed envelope onstage, internationally acclaimed White Rabbit Red Rabbit, by Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour, is an audacious theatrical experiment and a potent reminder of the transgressive and transformative power of theater. Forbidden to leave his native Iran, Soleimanpour wrote a play which traveled the world in his place. The audience joins each different performer on a journey into the unknown; stumbling upon the personal and profound, the limits of liberty and ultimately where theater can take you.

From August 3rd through 8th, the White Lake Chamber Music Festival will once again present exceptional performances! Excellent programming, world-class artists, and inspiring classical music performances will take place outdoors at the White Lake Golf Course pavilion (6355 Michillinda Rd., Whitehall). The Chicago based, world-renowned Avalon String Quartet returns to the White Lake area as the Festival’s quartet-in-residence. This quartet, described as “…deeply musical and sheerly gorgeous”, is the cornerstone of the Festival, presenting three concerts on August 3rd, 5th, and 7th, that includes an all-Beethoven concert, a performance of the Schubert Cello Quintet with cellist Marina Hoover, and the Dvorak String Quartet Op. 51 in Eb Major “The Slavonic”. Hear the Detroit Symphony Trio on August 4th, featuring flutist Jeff Zook, Sheryl Hwangbo, violin, and David Ledoux, cello, performing works by Haydn, Godard, Vivaldi, Faure, Girtain, and more. Rounding out the shortened schedule will be a performance by the DePaul Trombone Quartet featuring internationally acclaimed soloist and Chicago Symphony Bass Trombonist Charlie Vernon on August 6th. An Austrian themed Gala Dinner/cook out will complete the Festival on August 8th at the pavilion with artist Michael Schaeffer, accordion. While this summer’s schedule is shortened from the typical 10-day festival, there will once again be the world’s greatest music wonderfully played, combined with the soft summer weather, beaches, and spectacular sunsets. All of this makes the White Lake Chamber Music Festival a vacation destination for an ever-growing audience from near and far. A limited number of tickets will be available starting June 15 at the Book Nook & Java Shop (231-894-5333) and on-line at www,whitelakemusic.org. For a schedule of this year’s delightful Festival events, please visit www.whitelakemusic.org or call 231-329-3056 for more information. [post_title] => The White Lake Chamber Music Festival is Back! The Last Five Years

The Last Five YearsA Musical written by Jason Robert Brown Directed by Isaac Bush Musical Direction by Heather MacCallum

August 5, 6, 7 7:30 pm August 8 (Sunday) 2:00 pm

Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk winner, The Last Five Years, has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of TIME Magazine's ten best shows of 2001. A testament to the show's longevity, and spurred by the show's regional popularity, The Last Five Years enjoyed an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage in 2013. An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show. This production features husband and wife duo, Derek Root Benson and Claire Root Benson.
