Middle & High School Students FREE Registration is required. Register here: https://www.artswhitelake.org/upcoming-classes
Middle and High School students are invited to the ACWL-Nuveen for Open Studio sessions on Wednesdays between 2:00 and 5:00, p.m. ACWL-Nuveen staff will be available to help students with both art and music projects. Art students are welcome to bring in projects they are already working on or just an idea for something new. They will be able to use the numerous supplies we have on hand, as well as receive help from ACWL-Nuveen Assistant Director Susan Wink. Music students are invited to bring in the pieces they are currently studying and receive practice and musicality tips from ACWL-Nuveen Director Erin Peyer.
Topics/Mediums we are able to assist students with: Art - Drawing - Painting – acrylic, watercolor - Mixed Media - Small scale sculpture techniques - Fiber Arts
Music - Practice help - Music theory
About the Facilitators:
Susan Wink has an extensive education background, teaching art to all ages in school and museum settings. A Michigan native, Susan lived in the high plains desert of Roswell, New Mexico for several years where she maintained a professional studio creating custom ceramic tile and designing and building community-based public art.
Erin Peyer grew up playing music and earned her Master's degree in Piano Pedagogy. Before moving to Michigan and pursuing a career in the nonprofit world, she ran a private piano studio in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Erin continues to play piano at home and is a member of the West Michigan Concert Winds where she plays euphonium.
COVID-19 Considerations: Although the Open Studio is FREE, students ARE required to register due to capacity restrictions. We can host up to 8 students in each of the two Art Open Studio Slots: 2:00-3:30 and 3:30-5:00. Students can sign up for both slots or just one, and you don’t have to be here the entire time. We can only host 1 music student in each of the 4, 45-minute slots, unless students are already working together in a duo or trio. Music slots are 2:00-2:45, 2:45-3:30, 3:30-4:15, 4:15-5:00. The ACWL-Nuveen has a keyboard on sight, but students studying other instruments will need to bring those with them.
ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by grants from the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cheryl Whelan Family and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.

It's a great physical activity that provides a fun way to be active. Players are required to remain seated (players are allowed to lift one side of the body, but are not permitted to rise completely off of the chair), so chair volleyball allows those with physical limitations to participate on a level playing field with those who are more active. Regular participation in the activity will increase flexibility, stamina and laughter!
The ideal number of people to play a game is 3-4 per side. Gather a group of friends and learn a new skill.  Chair Volleyball is played on the turf side of the VAC.
This is free to Seniors who live in the following municipalities:
  • Blue Lake Township
  • City of Montague
  • City of Whitehall
  • White River Township
  • Whitehall Township
Anyone else is $2.00 per game and can be paid at the VAC Registration desk.
Come join the fun!
