Frank Galante will perform a program of music from the Spanish Renaissance on vihuela. We are sure that this will be the only performance of its kind anywhere in Michigan on this date. The six course vihuela was popular in Spain in the sixteenth century. Frank will be playing a period instrument reproduction, built by Richard Fletcher around the year 2000. Vihuela music transcriptions form the basis for a considerable amount of the early music repertoire for the classical guitar. As well as providing an opportunity to experience this gorgeous music, this performance will give lovers of the classical guitar a chance to hear this music played on the instrument it for which it was written
