Participants 18 years and older are invited to bring their art supplies for a day of exploration and creating at the beautiful Lundell Farms in North Muskegon (https://www.lundellfarms.com). Participants will start the day at 10am with a greeting from owner Lori Lundell followed by demonstrations by MJ Ernst and Ann Rusky, both of whom are master sketchers and members of urban sketchers http://www.urbansketchers.org/. MJ will give a demonstration using pens and watercolor, providing tips on how to sketch “en plein air”. Ann will demonstrate her sketchbook approach using quick sketches of a scene with linework, then adding a range of values using permanent ink washes, and lastly adding a watercolor layer. About the Instructors:
Mary Jo (MJ) Ernst grew up in West Michigan and has been sketching her whole life. She uses all types of mediums in her artwork. Ink, especially solubles, is her preferred choice for quick sketching. Her sketch style is whimsical and impressionistic. MJ encourages anyone, all skill levels, to pick up a pen, pencil or brush to get started and make a mark!Visit the ACWL-Nuveen or go to @MysteriousMannequin on Facebook and Instagram to see her artwork.
Ann G Rusky believes that the making of art is the chance for the soul to play. It is the process of taking what moves your spirit internally and letting it inspire you externally. It is the opportunity to take what you see and feel and express it through your artwork. Ann is an Artist and Illustrator from Grand Rapids, Michigan who enjoys living in West Michigan because of the changing seasons and variety of landscapes. Her soul is refreshed when walking on the hundreds of miles of trails around the state with her family and recording that beauty in her artwork.
ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported by the Nuveen Benevolent Trust, the Michigan Council for Arts & Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, and CatchMark Technologies.
