2018 White Lake Area Award Recipients
At last October's Annual Chamber Dinner, recipients of several prestigious community awards were named and recognized for their contributions to the community.
The ceremony began with recognition of Colby’s Hokey Pokey and the three managing partners–Gretchen Jacobson, Caryl Ozar, and Diane Ingalls–in celebrating their 10th Anniversary. This extraordinary business has continued to be a shining star in downtown Whitehall.
Chris and Molly Morin, owners of Ice Box Brand Ice Cream, received the Entrepreneur of the Year award. The award recognizes new or existing business owner(s) whose extraordinary vision and efforts have helped to enhance the local economy. Chris and Molly Morin started with an ice cream truck in 2012, developing their very own recipes. The ice cream bars are now sold in over 100 locations plus a retail store located at 4207 Whitehall Rd. They sell hand-crafted gourmet ice cream bars in exciting and unique flavors with a focus on high quality ingredients.
The Lady Laker Award was presented to Deb Harris. The award recognizes a professional individual within our community who has served in an exceptional manner, especially in mentoring and assisting future leaders in the White Lake area. Not only is Deb an outstanding award-winning educator, she’s a coach, volunteer, mentor, and has contributed to our community in a variety of ways, including various Board positions. Instrumental to the Barrier Dune Sanctuary, the bike trail extension through White River Township, etc., Deb goes above and beyond her call to serve the community, both personally and professionally.
John Blythe was granted the El Award, which recognizes an outstanding local business person or community member. The contributions that John has made in our community are numerous. With a background at the Mott Foundation, John has the ability to implement leadership and passion throughout the community. Furthermore, John has served on the White Lake Community Fund Committee, the Muskegon Museum of Art Board, Friends of the Playhouse Board, and co-chaired the Playhouse Capital Campaign Committee. When any good cause takes place in the community, John has either already been a part of it or will be in the near future.
Congratulations to all award recipients!
