Students will learn the basics of scratchbord by transferring images into the surface with a simple tool to create a striking black and white artwork. Students should bring a reference photo of what they would like to transfer to their scratchboard or email an image to nuveen@artswhitelake.org before class so we can print it off for you!

About the Instructor:
Casey Bemis has lived in the Whitehall area for 13 years now, working in her studio in the quiet woods just a few miles from Lake Michigan. Much of the work is inspired by nature, geometry and science. Utilizing her undergraduate degree in painting, she draws directly on sheets of metal to be etched and then made into unique jewelry. She also paints and finds some time to work on several novels.
ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by CatchMark Technologies, Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
