Exploring Layers & Lines

March 17, 2023, 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

$25

Ages 12+

$25, $22.50 for ACWL-Nuveen members

Printmaking offers uniquely rich ways to make and layer lines, shapes, and textures.  Using simple materials (like wood pieces, cups, and self-adhesive foam), participants will experiment with hand printing and stamping, combined with painting.  Whether you like landscapes, the figure, still life, or abstract patterns, Ms. Swift will help you see new and beautiful possibilities for your art practice.  Beginners are welcome!

Class minimum: 4

Class maximum: 10

About the Instructor:

Carolyn Swift is a Traverse City-based visual artist who received her MFA from Indiana University and BFA from Albion College. Her studio practice includes a focus on printmaking, drawing, painting, and collage. Ms. Swift has an extensive exhibition record at the national and regional level and her work can be found in both public and private collections. When describing what inspires her artwork she states, “The pieces are deeply rooted in the ephemeral qualities of nature: nonstop changes of light, weather, temperature, and movement that are both predictable (such as seasons changing) and unpredictable in the seemingly endless variety (such as wind blowing through backyard trees). Such experiences are a primal source of joy, connection, wonder and well-being.” https://carolynswift.com/

ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by grants from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
