$60, $54 for ACWL-Nuveen Members
In this two-session class, students will learn low-tech etching. They will get the opportunity to create their own unique pair of earrings and a cuff to match. In the first session, students will see examples of designs they can draw onto the metal and start working on their pieces. In the second session, students will clean-up their work; utilizing sanding and patina of the metals for a nice finishing touch. Students will go home with new, contemporary jewelry. All materials will be provided.
Class minimum: 4
Class maximum: 6
About the Instructor:
Casey Bemis has lived in the Whitehall area for 12 years now, working in her studio in the quiet woods just a few miles from Lake Michigan. Much of the work is inspired by nature, geometry and science. Utilizing her undergraduate degree in painting, she draws directly on sheets of metal to be etched and then made into unique jewelry. She also paints and finds some time to work on several novels.
ACWL-Nuveen classes are supported in part by grants from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nuveen Benevolent Trust.
