TWO DATES TO CHOOSE FROM: Friday, May 2 from 9:00-4:00 or Saturday, May 3 from 9:00-4:00.
Cost for the day, all supplies and delicious lunch included is $150. Venmo or check are accepted. Pre-payment of a non-refundable 50% deposit is greatly appreciated. Think of this as a kind of “watercolor Lab”…we’ll have lots of ways for you to use, experiment, and catalog results. Using variables in materials, with determined constants, you’ll see for yourself how one change can enhance or hamper your watercolor results. You will take home all works and experiments, organized and catalogued in a sleeved notebook. You will use and compare several brands and quality levels of essential watercolor supplies: Paint, Paper, Brushes. Experience how paint brands differ and affect your painting results. Mixing your paint on paper vs. palette; water-to-paint ratios; metallic paints; gouache; opacity; lightfastness; pans vs. tubes; masking fluids, whites and opaque whites. How to utilize those beautiful brushes that you rarely use; strokes, synthetic vs. natural bristles, shapes, care of brushes, and more; Why and how the watercolor paper you are using affects results; Cold Press vs. Hot Press; 100% Cotton vs. blends; poundage-#140, #250, #300 and Rough; Pads and Blocks; sizing and prepping your watercolor paper. This will be a great opportunity for you to be hands-on all day, using and comparing varying materials to become more familiar with how watercolor painting techniques are affected by the materials being used.
Please bring the materials you are currently using; we will provide several different papers, brushes, and watercolor paints for you to thoroughly explore, experience, and compare. We’ll try to answer the questions you’ve wanted to ask. This workshop is for ages 16 and older, and geared to those with at least some experience with watercolors to intermediate skill levels.
Lunch and Refreshments will be provided, as well as time to enjoy the beautiful flowers and landscapes in a plein-aire painting time, utilizing some of the things we learned, weather permitting:)
All supplies for this unique watercolor workshop are provided, but bringing your own materials for comparison is highly recommended.
