Cardboard Sled Race

February 8 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

It’s Back! Start working on your Cardboard Sleds and join us for the White Lake Wanderland Cardboard Sled Races down the town sledding hill!
Be sure to review all of the attached rules and requirements and we’ll see you there!

From Fetch Event Page:

Design and build a person powered, corrugated cardboard sled capable of withstanding the slide down the Town Sledding Hill. How creative can you be using only corrugated cardboard as a building material? Awards given for fastest, best looking and most team spirit. Come join us!
Awards:
• Admirable Award – Most attractive or unique-looking sled
• Moxie Award – Most spirited and/or best organized team. Looks don’t matter here, just bring your enthusiasm!
• Solo Cup Award – Winner of the Solo Cup Division
• Zing Awards – Age Classes I, II, and III will run separately with awards for fastest each.
Rules for all sleds:
Safety and fun are our objective. Competition is secondary. For safety, you have to follow these rules. For fun, you need to follow them with a smile on your face and remember that this is an event organized and run by volunteers who work very hard to ensure everyone has a safe and fun time.
Construction:
• Your sled must pass inspection in order to be allowed on the hill.
• All participants must be able to stop their sled!
• Your sled must be free of sharp edges, pointy objects, or any other feature that may be deemed dangerous by the inspectors. • If you are unable to remove such objects from your sled, you will not be allowed to race.
• Only corrugated cardboard may be used, held together with tapes & glues.
• Your sled bottom may NOT be wrapped in plastic, tape, shrink wrap, or anything else.
• Only seams and joints may be taped, not the whole sled.
• 100% of the bottom of the sled can be waxed – but approximately 90% must be exposed – no tape, paint, shrink wrap or other material.
• Absolutely NO use of the following:
• Corrugated plastics or other corrugated materials
• Non-corrugated cardboard such as carpet tubes
• Cardboard that is bonded to other materials
• Epoxy reinforced cardboard
• Tar based substances
• Epoxy glue
• Fiberglass resin
• Two-part varnished or any other two-part substances
• Glues that harden into solids
• Screws of any sort or material, including plastic
• Mechanical fasteners
• Nails
• Staples, even covered in tape
• Any other non-cardboard/tape item not listed above, at judge’s discretion
You must be able to stop your sled. Keep this important feature in mind when designing and building your sled.
These rules are in place for your safety, the safety of those coming down the hill after you, and for all the kids that sled on the hill throughout the winter.
Participation:
• The pilot must have read and understand the rules and register the sled
• All riders must have read and understand the rules
• If you do not pass inspection, you may not be allowed to participate or may not be allowed on the hill at all
• All occupants of a sled MUST provide and wear protective headgear (i.e. bicycle helmet, ski helmet, etc.)
• No more than 3 occupants will be permitted on any one sled
• To qualify as a finisher, you must be in or on your sled rather than chasing it or being chased by it as you cross the finish line
• If you have a fast time, you may race more than once
• Any sled that does not meet the requirements may race separately outside of the listed competitive races and will not be eligible for prizes.
Grudge Matches:
If you wish to race against someone special, there will be match racing after the heats. Talk to the registration desk.
Solo Cup Division:
Solo races where participants 21+ will start with a measured amount of liquid in a Solo cup and winners will be determined by finishing on/in their sled while also having spilled the least contents of their cup.
All participants must be able to stop their sled!
You must be able to explain or demonstrate the ability to stop your sled at the time of inspection. Failure to do so may result in disqualification and/or the sled will not be allowed to race.
!!! Please note that we have no clue what Mother Nature has planned for us. If the Sledding Hill is not safe to sled due to lack of snow or any other natural reason, we will change this to a Sled Build Showcase where you come and SHOW OFF your amazing sled creations!!!
