Cap off your Fourth of July and America 250 celebrations with American Folk: Old Time in the Current Times, a lively evening of music and history at the library on July 6th at 5:30pm with Michigan musician Ben Traverse.

What is “old time” music—and where did it really come from? Often linked to the 1960s folk revival, old time is rooted in a much deeper, more complex story shaped by working-class traditions and powerful cultural exchanges, especially with African American music.

Traverse brings this story to life through song. Featuring guitar, banjo, mountain dulcimer, and autoharp, the program explores the genre’s rich influences, evolving sound, and enduring legacy. All are welcome; registration is appreciated.
