At 5:30pm on Wednesday, March 8th, celebrate the life of Lara MacGregor and the publication of her book, A Hopeful Life, with her father, Art Plewka, at White Lake Community Library. Art will share Lara’s story, her mission through Hope Scarves (hopescarves.org), and the importance of her book. He’ll also share his own “hopeful life” story, describing a recent hiking trip in Lara’s memory.
In 2007, Lara MacGregor, at 30 years old and 7 months pregnant, was diagnosed with breast cancer. After being gifted headscarves accompanied by a note that said “You can do this” during her treatment, she founded Hope Scarves, bringing hope and community to thousands of people. Then, after 7 years in remission, she was diagnosed again – this time with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. With her new reality, Lara had to redefine hope for herself and for her organization: to live life over cancer. Lara chose to write her own story. One that embraces every moment intentionally. One of hope. Lara passed away January 18, 2022, but her legacy of hope continues.
