Pickleball-Monday and Fridays

Pickleball is a cross between badminton and tennis. It is played on a badminton sized court that is 20×44, compared to a tennis court which is 36×78 and has a tennis-like net that is 34″ high at center court. It is played with what looks to be an over-sized ping pong paddle. We have 3 pickleball courts laid out on the gym floor at the WLCC. This game can be played with 2 players, but most often is played with 4. Players of all skill levels are welcome, first-timers to advanced. This is an incredibly popular activity with Seniors as the smaller court size and whiffle ball are much easier on joints while still providing great exercise. We have nets, balls and paddles. Wear comfortable clothes and clean-soled gym shoes; join us and have fun!

This class meets Monday, Thursday and Friday. and is free; registration is not necessary. We have a morning and afternoon group.

Note: Class will not meet the following dates: 11/23/17-11/24/17, 12/25/17, 12/28/17-12/29/17, 1/1/18 and 5/28/18.

Monday & Friday Group Meets: September 8, 2017 through May 25, 2018 at 9AM-11AM

(Thursday Group Meets: September 7, 2017 through May 31, 2018 from 1PM-3PM)

Free Nature Walk

Discover the beauty of the White Lake area.  Local naturalists will lead guided tours of local natural areas.  A variety of topics relating to native plants and wildlife will be covered, depending on the time of year.  The walks are appropriate for adults and families;  no children allowed without parents.

Walks will take place the first Saturday of the month, beginning in June and continuing through October.  Walks begin at 10:30 a.m. sharp and last until approximately 12:00 noon.

There is no cost for the walks, which are a partnership of Great Lakes Consulting, The White Lake Area Chamber, and the Land Conservancy of West Michigan. Arconic (Alcoa Howmet) is the program’s financial sponsor.

Attendees are encouraged to: bring insect repellant, dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable shoes (no flip flops), and water/snacks if needed.  Other optional items include:  sunscreen, hat, umbrella, binoculars, camera, sketchpad, and pencils/pens.

Walks will take place regardless of weather, unless conditions are unsafe.  Please call to confirm if you have questions.
