We teach physical techniques along with drills and exercises to help you have a positive experience while you learn self-defense techniques. Family Karate is for families with children who are in grades Kindergarten and up.

White Lake Winter Lecture Series

The White Lake Music Society’s Winter Lecture Series will feature three engaging and stimulating presentations! The last Tuesday of the month, from January through March, a wide variety of expertise and talent will be showcased.

The Lecture Series begins Tuesday, January 30 at 7 PM at the Book Nook & Java Shop (8744 Ferry St., Montague).  Blue Lake Radio host, Foley Schuler, will speak on From Bugs Bunny to Stanley Kubrick-Classical Music Goes to the Movies.

Mr. Schuler will share his love of both classical music and cinema in this examination of the nexus of the two art forms in the work of several master film directors-in whose hands certain works from the classical music repertoire become much more than mere accompaniment to the images, but are organic to the ultimate vision itself. Through a selection of iconic and unforgettable scenes, we’ll see how these works have been essential in advancing the narrative, creating dramatic effect–at times almost acting another character–and, in general, contributing to an aesthetic synergy in which, true to the art of cinema itself, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Continuing on February 27, in honor of Black History Month, Antione Hackney will present a lecture on The History of the Blues.

For the ending presentation on March 27, Chef Jill Hansen will speak on The Art of Taste.

January and February’s 7 PM presentations will take place at the Book Nook & Java Shop, 8744 Ferry St. in Montague. The presentation in March will be at 7 PM at Cichetti Culinary Studio, 702 Holton Rd., North Muskegon. Admission is $5 at the door. Everyone is welcomed!

Pickleball-Thursdays

Pickle what? Pickleball is a cross between badminton and tennis. It is played on a badminton sized court that is 20×44, compared to a tennis court which is 36×78 and has a tennis-like net that is 34″ high at center court. It is played with what looks to be an over-sized ping pong paddle. We have 3 pickleball courts laid out on the gym floor at the WLCC. This game can be played with 2 players, but most often is played with 4. Players of all skill levels are welcome, first-timers to advanced. This is an incredibly popular activity with Seniors as the smaller court size and whiffle ball are much easier on joints while still providing great exercise. We have nets, balls and paddles. Wear comfortable clothes and clean-soled gym shoes; join us and have fun!

This class meets Monday, Thursday and Friday. and is free; registration is not necessary. We have a morning and afternoon group.

Note: Class will not meet the following dates: 11/23/17-11/24/17, 12/25/17, 12/28/17-12/29/17, 1/1/18 and 5/28/18.

Monday & Friday Group Meets: September 8, 2017 through May 25, 2018 at 9AM-11AM
